Traveled to : Beaufort, NC

Beaufort, NC is a small mainland town on the southern most part of the North Carolina Outer Banks. The town is celebrating it’s 300th anniversary this year and boasts itself as the 3rd oldest town in North Carolina. There is a small “downtown” area of about 4 city blocks. It hosts restaurants, pubs, shopping and of course small ferry-to-island, sailing, sight seeing, and kayak rental businesses. There are wide sidewalks and plenty of free parking (and free daily public boat docking). As you would expect in a 300 year old town, the homes around the downtown area are quite old, historic and grand. A few on the market this week listed at $1.6 million, but of course they are on the water, with large boat slips and views to die for.

I spent a great deal of the week sitting on the front porch (of the 3rd house to the right, above) watching the boats. I can’t think of a more peaceful way to spend some downtime.
